Speech is a Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) sponsored activity. It is a competitive activity in which you perform in front of a judge and a small group of fellow competitors. You are ranked on your performance during preliminary rounds in an attempt to make the final round, where awards are given to the highest-ranked speakers.
During the season, students compete in one or more of 13 categories. Speech is a competitive activity that fosters learning the art of public speaking, but this activity encompasses so much more than just speaking. It involves analysis, performance, research, writing, leadership, creativity, listening, etc. This activity promotes personal growth and achievement.
